Bacon Ham and Cheese Stromboli

I made this Bacon Ham and Cheese Stromboli , using store bought bread dough. Our supermarket only makes a few fresh batches every morning, so we have to get there early as this sells out very quickly.

You can however, use your own homemade bread dough and use just about any type - white, brown, wholewheat etc.

Mine did not come out 100% the way I rolled it, but I think it still turned out just fine and most definitely delicious.

Serve a salad or two with the Stromboli and your dinner is sorted, or .. make one the night before and surprise everyone with a special lunch treat the next day.

Serve  6 - 8


Bread Dough - enough for one large loaf  {store bought or homemade}
250g Bacon Bits
2 Onions, sliced
1 Red Bell Pepper, sliced
1 Green Bell Pepper, sliced
4 t Garlic, crushed
1 t Italian Herbs
250g Thinly Sliced Deli Ham
2 cups Mozzarella, grated
1 Egg, beaten lightly
1/4 cup Parmesan, grated finely


1.) Pre-Heat the oven to 180 deg C (350 deg F) - line a baking sheet with baking paper.
2.) Cook the Bacon Bits until done and slightly crispy - remove from pan but retain fat.
3.) Saute the Onion, both Bell Peppers and Garlic, in the retained pan fat until soft - add the Italian Herbs and cook another minute - remove from heat and let cool.
4.) Roll out the Bread Dough in a rectangular shape - sprinkle half the Mozzarella over the dough followed by the cooked Bacon - scoop the Onion mixture evenly over the Bacon - scatter the Ham over and end with the remaining half Mozzarella.
5.) Start rolling up the dough - lengthwise - place on the lined baking sheet - brush with the beaten Egg and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
6.) Bake 30 - 35 minutes or until done - remove from the oven - sprinkle with the Parmesan and return to the oven for another 5 minutes.
7.) Remove the Stromboli from the oven - leave to rest for 10 minutes before slicing into thick slices.
